GLP-1 & Weight
I am on Wegovy and barely hungry — how do I make sure I get enough nutrition?

Since starting Wegovy 3 months ago my appetite has dropped dramatically. Some days I only eat one small meal. I am losing weight but worried I am not getting enough protein and vitamins. How do I ensure nutritional adequacy when I am barely hungry?

This is the most underaddressed risk of GLP-1 therapy & you are right to be concerned. The 2025 Joint Advisory from the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, American Society for Nutrition, Obesity Medicine Association, & The Obesity Society identified nutritional inadequacy — not just caloric restriction — as the primary clinical concern for patients on semaglutide and tirzepatide.
When appetite is severely suppressed, most people naturally gravitate toward easy, comfortable foods which tend to be carbohydrate-heavy and protein-light. This is the worst pattern for GLP-1 users because protein is the nutrient most critical for preserving muscle mass, & muscle loss is the primary risk of rapid GLP-1-induced weight loss.
Practical framework for nutritional adequacy on Wegovy when barely hungry: Protein first at every eating opportunity even if you can only manage a few bites, make those bites protein. Greek yogurt, a hard-boiled egg, cottage cheese, or a small piece of chicken before anything else. Target 20–30g protein per eating occasion. Second priority is micronutrient density — choose foods that deliver vitamins & minerals per calorie: eggs for B12 and choline, salmon for vitamin D & omega-3, leafy greens for folate and magnesium.
Per Urbina et al. 2026 (a review of 480,825 adults on GLP-1 therapy), the most common deficiencies are Vitamin D, iron, calcium, and B12. Ask your prescribing physician to run a full micronutrient panel at your next visit. Platelytix scores meals specifically for GLP-1 users and flags when protein or key micronutrients fall below clinical minimums for your therapy.
📊 This meal scored 62/100 but what's striking is the low protein that was flagged
